Come and stay in our comfortable guest room, peacefully located on our rural quinta, in central Portugal. The accommodation comprises of a large room with double bed, sofa, table and kitchenette. Offering a kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge and freezer, there is ample opportunity to make snacks during your stay. The on-suite bathroom has a large walk in shower, handbasin and toilet, and the whole space is warm in the winter, due to underfloor heating, and cool in summer, as a result of superior insulation.
To the rear of the room, guests have the use of our large veranda which offers spectacular views of the Serra de Estrela Mountains. Relax with drink as the sun sets, or cook some bifadas on the BBQ out there. Join us for breakfast on the sunny front veranda, and chat round our huge table.
From the property there are fabulous walks along trails through the forest with further views towards Monsanto and Castelo Branco once you have made the climb. It is a great place for those interested in birdwatching and wildlife. Mountain bike enthusiastic will love the challenge of the trails, while those with a little less energy might prefer to walk to the village cafe to meet new friends.
The Local Area
Whilst being frequently described as tranquil, our location is only a short drive from the busy market town of Fundão (15km), the University City of Covilhã (30km) and the administrative capital of the region, Castello Branco (50km). A short drive away are found many glorious tourist destinations such as Monsanto, Sortelha, Belmonte, Idanha-a-Velha, Serra de Gardunha and Castelo Novo. Not forgetting of course that our key mountain, The Serra Estrela, has great places to walk, swim and even ski when the well-equipped resort has snow! In warmer weather, it is only a short drive to the nearest barragem where you can cool off in the clear water, and picnic under the shade of the trees.
Meeting Your Needs
As experienced hosts, having previously run ski chalets, we can be as flexible as you wish with the accommodation. The initial price is for the room only, including bath and swimming towels, bathroom products, tea and coffee. But, if you would like breakfast (7€) or dinner, including local wine and beer, (12€) with us, we would be more than happy to oblige. We would love to share our experience of moving and settling in Portugal. Share the things we have learnt, point out the pitfalls, and explain how much we love working and living here.
Getting here: Fundão is on the main rail line from Lisbon to Covilhã, and additionally right next to the N23. We are also only 30km from the Spanish border if you fancy a trip there too.
We look forward to hearing from you, and if you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to email us.
