Blessed with the most sun hours of Europe, our Algarve holiday accommodation is an ”all season” haven. This old, enchanting 6-ha estate, with its characteristic buildings, is situated on a hill, in the countryside of the SW Algarve in Portugal, only 1 km from the small authentic village of Odiáxere, 5 km from fishermen’s port Lagos and 1 km from Meia Praia beach.

The house is surrounded by all kinds of little terraces with trees and colourful flowers. Each terrace has its own atmosphere. The house is named after the Alfarrobeira tree that casts its shadow on the houses and the pool. It is a huge carob tree, hundreds of years old.
As the house is built on a hill, there are magnificent views of the rural country with its old almond, fig and olive trees. Even the distant mountains of the Serra de Monchique can be seen.
At this moment the Quinta has 2 guesthouses that, for decades, have welcomed guests from all over the world. The houses are decorated with antique furniture from different countries and are enriched with ornamental fireplaces.
One of them called 'A Granja’, is connected to the main house, but has its own entrance. This cosy house contains a double bedroom, a bathroom with bath and shower, a living room with a kitchen, fireplace and sofa bed and two private terraces.
The other house, 'A Vivenda', is freely situated. It has one twin bedroom and a double bedroom, a living room with a huge fireplace and a sofa bed, a separate kitchen (with large Italian cooker and dishwasher), a shower, a laundry room, a big veranda and a private terrace.
There is a large swimming pool with a separate part for toddlers, surrounded by trees and flowers. The Quinta’s private, personal and authentic character, its’ wide open space and natural surroundings make both adults and children feel at home. “Definitely a place to recharge and sooth your soul” (guest comment)
The Quinta is a perfect point of departure for walking and hiking in the Algarve: land inward in the Serra de Monchique, the Serra de Calderão or the Nature Reserve of Ria Formosa (bird watching), along the beautiful South Coast towards the lagoons (2 km) to see the flamingos or along the cliffs. Also the West coast with nature reserve Costa Vicentina is definitely worth a visit.

The place is run by us, Theo, Inge and our three young sons, in an organic, ‘take us as you find us’ kind of way. We use environmentally friendly products; we separate our garbage, use sustainable energy sources and recycled and natural building materials.
We have an organic vegetable- and herb garden and several orchards. There are horses, chickens, ducks, friendly cats and dogs. Guests are welcome to help us feed the animals, find eggs or pick some vegetables. Our main target is to be as self supporting as possible. As a Wwoof host (Willing Workers on Organic Farms) we receive people from all over the world who help us to maintain and develop the Quinta in exchange for board and lodging.

In the near future, off season, we will host individual artists and craftsmen. As a follow up we will offer people the opportunity and space to organize workshops at the Quinta, with focus on art, old – traditional - handicraft, sustainable living and personal growth.
Furthermore, we have launched an initiative called ‘Quinta Educativa’ in which we receive groups of children to give them a 'break' and offer them the opportunity to experience small scale organic farming, sustainability, etc.

The sustainable energy sources we use now are sun and wood (solar panels and wood burners for hot water and central heating). As we go, we will extend and install more sustainable hot water and electricity resources (solar panels and windmills). On our land we have almonds, figs, olives, oranges and other fruit. Guests will have the opportunity to purchase organic wine, eggs, vegetables, herbs, honey, homemade jam etc. whenever available. We provide our guests with information on where to eat, where to shop and where to go. In this information we promote local establishments, (organic) markets, small-scale organizations and cultural events.
