Eco yurt holidays in a beautiful part of portugal next to the rio mondego, where you can have fun on the water or just relax taking in the atmosphere of the nature surrounding you.

Hello we are Fiona and Moïse and we live here at Quinta Do Animal with our 3 children Ulysse, Hayden and Cloé-Selénia. We run an ecological farm in the Beira Alta region of Portugal set in a beautiful valley next to the Rio mondego. We try to live together in harmony with all the nature around us. We grow all our vegetables organically using permaculture, keep goats for the milk and to make cheese and of course like every farm we have poultry for our eggs.
We try to be as eco-friendly as possible, by recycling everything, using solar energy and composting toilets. At the moment we are building our outdoor kitchen using the very old but ecological method of cob combined with a simple structure of cana. we also hope to set up a reed bed system to recycle our precious water for the irrigation of our fruit trees.
We like to live immersed in nature and that includes the type of dwellings that we accommodate, so that’s why we choose the very simple but most comfortable and beautiful round structure of the yurt which we also build here on the farm using locally sourced wood.

This beautiful place we would like to share with you for private holidays, where you can take extended walks, along the river discovering all kinds of nature, waterfalls, caves and beaches or maybe you would like to experience the spirit of the Mondego on horse back. You can listen to the crickets, frogs and nightingales singing to you at night and eat your breakfast to the delightful sound of tinkling bells as the local Sheppard goes past with his sheep on the way to their grazing ground next to the river. When it gets too hot it’s wonderful to go down to the river beach where it’s nice and cool, take a dip in the refreshing water or just watch the fish jumping. If you’re feeling a bit more energetic a canoe down the river is a good way to see some of the beauty all around. There is also space and time for bringing out the creative side of you with tranquill private places for meditation, painting, music ….
To end a beautiful day and you don’t fancy cooking you can always try a delicious home cooked pizza or focaccia made with our own grown organic vegetables at our rustic tavern.

We also run farm holidays for groups of children and various workshops throughout the year.

ACCOMODATION
For those of you who love to be closer to nature we offer our beautiful yurts which are immersed in our hillside over looking the river and can sleep up to 3 people.
We also cater for those of you who prefer a more solid structure with two beautifully restored granite houses which sleep up to 6 people.

If you would like the comfortable but cheaper option we have the dormitory tent which is very spacious, warm and comfortable, with 15 people max.
There is also camping available for those of you who want a low budget holiday.

WORKSHOPS AND ACTIVITIES AVALIABLE. We run various workshops throughout the year for adults and children. we also have workshops activities and seminars of an ecological and enviromental nature running at different times of the year. please contact us to know what is available and when. There are regular theatre, circus and art workshops for children. There is also archery available to those who wish to learn. If you feel that you have rhythm and would like to learn some basic drumming techniques or feel you want to go further with your drumming, next door at Quinta Mondega it is also possible to book a djembè lesson If you like to get about in the saddle there is a local riding stables 3km from us where you can go on a riding excursion for the day. There is also canoe hire available for those who like to mess around on the water. We have the big flower yurt of 10 meters diameter which we offer as a space to anyone who wishes to hold courses or run workshops. If you are in groups and feel like doing something different or parents wish for a few hours to have some time alone, some of these workshops are also available by booking in advanced. Each workshop will run between one and two hours.
