Retiro no Rio, a beautiful estate measuring almost 10 hectares, of which approximately one kilometre stretches along the south shore of the Rio Mondego, is situated in the centre of Portugal. Literary translated, Retiro no Rio means a place to relax (retreat) at the river, a name that suits this estate perfectly.

You will find Retiro no Rio in the green heart of Portugal. It’s a beautiful rural estate of approx. 10 hectares, stretching for about a kilometre along the left bank of the River Mondego.

The apartments with ample terraces face a bend in the river, giving an excellent view in three directions over the river. Our own river beach can be reached via an easily passable road of approx. 50m. Apart from the beach there is also a spacious salt-water swimming pool (7m x 12m).

The entrance to the two bedrooms (b&b) is via our patio. These two rooms share a bathroom.

The camping site is situated in the orchard. The maximum distance between the camping site and the river varies from 10 to 100 meters (depending on your location and the water level of the river). The places on the camping are not marked. Although there is sufficient space, we prefer to keep it on a small scale, and therefore we have set the number of places at a maximum of 10. Water and electricity are available at the campsite.

There are two luxury four person caravans for rent.

In the morning you can have breakfast on our cosy covered terrace with a view over the river, whereas at night you can join us at our “table d’hôte”. There is also a bar in the main building for those occasions where the weather does not allow eating al fresco. Most of the year, however, temperatures are pleasant.

Our surroundings lend themselves pre-eminently for taking walks, daring bike tours, canoeing, fishing and various water sports. We have mountain bikes, fishing rods, windsurf boards and a canoe available.

Because of the central location, both the sea and mountains (skiing possibilities) and the cities of Coimbra and Viseu as well as the Bucaco National Park and Serra de Caramulo are within an hours drive. The distance to Porto (with an airport) is approx. 170km.

Prices are based on 2 persons, per night. For every additional person there is a surcharge of € 10 per night.

High season: minimum stay is 3 nights.
