Typical Portuguese Village House - Silver Coast, nr OBIDOS. Sleeps 5
Set in a small rural hamlet, backed by forestry and orchards, close to the beautiful beaches of the Silver Coast.
Typical Portuguese Village House, just fifteen minutes from the stunning beaches of the Silver Coast and ten minutes from the Heritage Site town of OBIDOS.
ALl rooms have electric wall heaters and there is a solid fuel stove in the fireplace in the sitting room.
The house is set on a hillside with lovely views over the village and to the hills beyond. We have a large garden, with our own well, fruit trees, patio and built-in BBQ. The land backs directly onto forestry and, as we are the last-but-one house on our little road, there is virtually NO through traffic.
The nearest facilities are in the nearby village of VIDAIS, about a mile away, where you will find a multibanco, bar, shop, petrol station, post office, pharmacy and restaurant.
The kitchen is well equipped with gas cooker, mains water, microwave, washing machine etc. and the sitting room offers TV, DVD and PS2. There is also an ipod docking station and a portable CD player.
The house is comfortably furnished and perfect for a family holiday. You will find books, games, dvds and cds in the lounge, skim boards, mountain bikes, sunloungers etc in the store room, all of which you are welcome to use. There is also a 2-man inflatable KAYAK, again, you are welcome to borrow it but with extreme caution and at your own risk. (Do NOT attempt to use it in open sea, only at the bay at Sao Martinho or the Obidos lagoon.)
The nearby town of CALDAS da RAINHA is less than ten minutes away and offers all facilities including a wide range of shops, supermarkets, restaurants, bowling, a hospital, & an open air market.
Also nearby is the delightful horseshoe bay of Sao Martinho, with its charming old town, selection of beachfront shops and cafes and safe bathing. For those with more of taste for adventure, the vast beach at Praia del Rei offers huge, exhilarating Atlantic Breakers, or there is Baleal, known locally as SURFERS PARADISE. Or chill out at Foz do Arelho, with its inland lagoon, Atlantic beach and a variety of beachfront cafes, bars and fish restaurants.
The house comprises one large airy downstairs sitting room/dining room, with dining table and chairs for six, a comfortable double sofa-bed, extra sofa, coffee table etc. Step down into the well equipped kitchen and beyond that is the toilet/showroom, newly fitted and tiled with a modern walk-in shower and vanity unit. Please note : the bathroom is beyond the kitchen, there is no WC upstairs.
On the top floor you will find a double bedroom and a twin bedroom. There is also a very small bunkroom which could be used for extra accomodation if necessary, although we tend to store our things there.
The house enjoys tiled floors throughout.
This is a perfect location for either a beach holiday or for touring this beautiful area, with easy access to the deightful towns of Fatima, Alcobaca, Obidos, Batalha, Peniche, and of course, Lisbon. A little further inland is the beautiful mountain range Serra D'Estrella where you can ski in winter and hike or camp in summer.
Driving time from Lisbon airport is approx 50 minutes.
