Casa Escondida's large open-plan 65 sq.metre living area comfortably seats 4 people & leads out onto the two-tiered, stone walled garden. With magnificent mountain views & good privacy, due to the location on the hill, it gets full sunshine throughout the day & is an ideal spot for sunbathing or relaxing with a book & a cold drink under the shade of the old fig tree. The views from the ‘Juliet’ balcony and garden, are quite spectacular & you can see up to 50 km on a clear day. The sunsets can be absolutely stunning. In the garden,there are tables & chairs, sunshades and two full size sun loungers. The cottage comes fully equipped for all your self-catering needs & there is also a cast iron ‘chiminea’ style BBQ for outdoor dining. Inside, the kitchen has a refrigerator with a small freezer compartment.A full size 5 ring hob & oven & an electric kettle & toaster. There's also a cafetiere,coffee maker & a picnic hamper for days out.
There are two bedrooms downstairs, both with double beds. In the 2nd bedroom there is an additional sleeping area with a single sofa bed for an extra person. Also downstairs is the Bathroom, which has a generous shower, basin, toilet & bidet.
Heating: For the cooler months there’s a ‘salamandra’ log burner in the main room & radiators in all the bedrooms.
A laundry service is available at an additional charge. Linens,bedding & towels are included in the price.Towels shouldn't be removed from the property, therefore it is advisable to bring your own beach towels.There is no extra charge for cleaning but we expect you to leave the property as clean as you found it.
Alqueve is only a ten minute drive away from both the quiet small towns of Côja & Arganil where you'll find lots of traditional restaurants & bars.If you prefer to stay local,the quiet village cafe in Alqueve is only a 5 minute walk away from the cottage.If you're staying in, there's a TV with DVD player & DVD library ... films, docs, comedy etc. Also there's CD/tape/radio player with a small music library.If you play guitar, there's a 6 string acoustic available.
There are also boardgames,books,local maps & activity guides.
Banking: The nearest ATM is located in Côja where you'll also find a variety of small shops. Here,the main cafe in the square also offers a free Wi-Fi internet service.
Local provisions: A bread delivery van comes daily & a fish delivery van twice weekly. Both stop directly outside the property & honk their horns. The nearest big supermarkets are in Arganil.

The protected landscape of the Serra do Açor includes a zone of great natural beauty included within the European network of biogenetic reserves - the Margaraça Woodlands. The luxurious vegetation found on these slate slopes is one of the rare examples of primitive vegetation cover in the mountainous areas of the centre of Portugal that have survived until the present day. The fresh air and invigorating atmosphere resulting from the abundance of water inspires us to take long walks or bike rides on hot summer days. Many streams originate in the Serra do Açor and it's possible to hear the sound of running water almost everywhere and find small lagoons or riverside beaches. One of the most beautiful spots is Fraga da Pena, a paradise like setting, where water falls in cascades about 70 m high, forming a delightful natural swimming pool. Be sure to explore all the different riverside spots in the area including, Côja, Pomares, Benfeita, Secarias, Avô, Porto Castanheiro & Agroal.
