Situated in a small hamlet on the edge of national forest, this tastefully restored house offers a lovely garden and spacious balcony from where you can enjoy stunning sunset views.
Located 35km inland from the historic city of Coimbra, and only a 5 minute drive from the market town of Serpins (train station, cafes, restaurants, supermarket), Casa de Chaves is far from isolated.
With a choice of over 5 praias fluvial (river beaches, some with cafes and picnic tables) within 10 minute drive, and backing onto extensive forest, there is plenty of scope to wind down and relax.
The house itself is spacious in its design, and boasts 3 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room with futon and kitchen/dining room with French doors onto large balcony.
Wooden floors throughout.

Large master bedroom with double bed.
Bedroom 2 with double bed.
Bathrooms:
Bathroom 1 with full sized bath, wet room (open sided shower), basin and wc.
Bathroom 2 with shower, basin, wc.
Kitchen:
Large, well equipped kitchen with dining table and chairs.
Utility Room:
Covered space under balcony with washing machine.
Living Rooms:
Good sized room with 2 metre square window looking out onto views and garden. Ceiling fan and exposed roof beam.
Other:
Large, L shaped balcony with beautiful views. Ample parking right beside the house for several cars.
Cleaning/towels/
linen/maid service:
Towels and linen are provided, and the property is cleaned once a week.
Covered porch entrance leads into kitchen/dining room, living room and onto balcony. Interior wooden staircase leading from balcony down to bedrooms and bathrooms. External stone staircases from balcony to courtyard and garden.
Not suitable for young children.
Outside:
The outside space includes a cobbled courtyard, and a sizeable, well maintained split level garden with many features, including an outside bread oven and many well established fruit trees (lemon, fig, olive, avocado, cherry etc).

Arrival at 4pm and departure at 10am.
A deposit of 50% is required on booking, with full payment six weeks prior to arrival.
The house is well located for a variety of outdoor activities as well as for site seeing. Horse riding, bicycle hire and canoe hire are all available in the nearby town of Gois (a 15km drive away), and all of the river beaches along the river Ceira are suitable for swimming. The surrounding countryside has many tracks ideal for walking and mountain biking, some starting from the house. Up in the Ceira valley are many shist (slate stone) mountain villages, as well as some stunning views and natural beauty spots. Suitable for site seeing, hiking, cycling or just soaking up the sun by the river.
The nearest shops are in the small market town of Serpins (market day is Sunday). Serpins has a train station with regular trains to Coimbra, a supermarket, pharmacy, bank post office, petrol station, two bakeries, and a selection of cafes (some of which also function as restaurants).
Within an hours drive lie many attractions, including the historic university town of Coimbra, Roman ruins at Conimbriga, the exquisite Buçaco Palace (with monastic gardens) and the striking riverside town of Penacova.
